Seems like everyone’s doing it. But what exactly is journaling? And is it worth the effort?
Simply put, journaling is the practice of taking time for yourself to write and reflect on your thoughts, feelings and life experiences. It’s a nourishing and creative practice that can be utilized in many different ways for a wide variety of reasons. Perhaps you want to journal to mend a broken heart. Or to express thoughts and emotions about someone who is no longer in your life. Or to simply delve more deeply into your feelings. There is no wrong way, or reason, to journal.
To get started, buy a simple notebook. Or a fancy journal, if you’re feeling indulgent. Then, put pen to paper. What you write doesn’t have to be profound, it could be what you had for lunch. The key is consistency. Write in your journal every day, and you’ll be amazed by the things you reveal to yourself, about yourself. Even if you just take ten minutes to write about your thoughts, feelings and life observations, you’ll gain a sense of relief, renewal and replenishment from the simple act of writing. Admittedly, few things are more intimidating that staring at a blank page. But if you give it a try, you’ll almost certainly discover why there’s so much joy for journaling these days.
