Anyone who has found their groove as a solo traveler knows there are great benefits to hitting the road companionless. Traveling alone means full control over where to go, what to eat and how to pass the time. The key is choosing a destination friendly to single visitors. Here are our picks for the best trips to take by yourself.

  1. Ojai,California
Splurge on a visit to Spa Ojai, then spend the rest of your visit in town. Pop by Farmer and the Cook for a laid-back and affordable lunch. Take your time wandering the crystal shops, enjoying the vibrant yoga scene, browsing Bart’s Books and hiking in the hills for spectacular views of the lush valley.

  2. New York City, New York
A trip to the Big Apple is a must-add to any solo traveler’s bucket list. Spend a day exploring the High Line, then catch a live show at The Comedy Cellar. Head to Brooklyn to explore the vibrant food scene in a city where single diners are more common than yellow taxis.

  3. San Francisco, California
Whether you prefer wandering through art museums, admiring stunning views or exploring vibrant restaurants and bars, San Francisco has you covered. This friendly city’s landscape is extremely walkable, though steep climbs up Russian Hill and Nob Hill are not for the faint of heart.

  4. Seville, Spain
After a day exploring Seville’s famous sites like the Torre del Oro and the Plaza de España among the crowds, head across the river to Triana for a local vibe, quieter pace and an abundance of restaurants and bars. If you came for tapas, you won’t be disappointed.

  5. Paris, France
Staying in a neighborhood apartment found on Airbnb sets the stage for the quintessential Parisian experience. Wander the Luxembourg Gardens, meander through museums and savor a picnic of cheese and wine at Parc Monceau. Paris tout seul is best explored on foot and without an agenda.

  6. Iceland
Rent a car or join a tour to explore the Golden Circle and take in stunning sites like the Gullfoss Waterfall. Spend at least a full day exploring Reykjavik with a City Card, which will get you into a great selection of museums and swimming pools, as well as free bus travel within the Capital Region.

  7. London, England
With an abundance of art museums, historical sites, book shops and buzzing pubs, there is an adventure around every corner. Book a hop-on hop-off river cruise along the Thames to cross major sites off your list, then spend the remainder of your time wandering on foot.

  8. Bali, Indonesia
Exploring the incredible natural wonders of this island will leave any solo traveler forever changed. From the beautiful beaches, breathtaking waterfalls and secret natural wonders to the vibrant art and spiritual culture, Bali lives up to the hype.

  9. Berlin, Germany
Affordable accommodations, excellent public transit, rich history and exciting nightlife make Berlin a great choice for solo travel. Download the GPSmyCity app for a variety of self-guided walking tours exploring museums, churches and important historical sites.

  10. Asheville, North Carolina
Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Asheville is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and lays claim to a vibrant art scene. Add the fact that this small, yet energetic college town hosts more breweries per capita than any other U.S. city and you have the perfect social vibe for solo travelers.
