Warm weather destinations without the hassle of traveling outside the country are a boon for winter blahs. Easy, sunny and oh so hassle-free, a visit to any one of these high-vibe locales will have you recharged, rejuvenated and ready to finish out snow season with a healthy, sunny glow.

  1. Sedona, Arizona
A yogi’s paradise, Sedona’s mild winter temperatures provide the perfect climate for hiking, biking and exploring its many healing vortexes. Spiritual seekers heading to the rejuvenating red hills in winter also take advantage of affordable accommodations.

  2. Death Valley National Park, California
Heading to Death Valley in the dead of winter means specific sites that are inaccessible during summer’s extreme heat can be experienced with ease. Nights here can be quite chilly, so dress in layers and don’t forget to look up; desert stargazing is unmatched.

  3. Palm Springs, California
Head to Palm Springs for the temperate winter climate and low-season crowds, stay for the mid-century architecture and vibrant arts and culture scene. Comfortably enjoy hiking, golf and strolling the Village, with cooler evenings calling for cozy layers.

  4. Del Mar, California
Located just 20 miles north of San Diego on the pristine California coastline, tranquil Del Mar offers visitors a bike-friendly and walkable laid-back village vibe. Winter visits offer a year-round Farmers Market, Santa by the Sea (December) and dog-friendly beaches.

  5. Ojai, California
This wellness-focused city northwest of Los Angeles boasts an abundance of charming restaurants, unique shops, beautiful places to stay and a predictably mild climate. Let Ojai’s lush valley views and independent spirit chase away your winter doldrums.

  6. Puerto Rico
By far the warmest of U.S. winter destinations, Puerto Rico’s lush Caribbean archipelago is just what the doctor ordered. Known for its arts, culture and vibrant music and dance scene, PR offers a complete change of scenery no matter where you’re coming from.

  7. North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii
Famed for its big wave surf competitions and beloved for the beautiful scenery, Oahu’s North Shore can’t be beat during winter months. User-friendly public transport makes a visit to Haleiwa for low-key, friendly vibes and some great vegan food a cinch.

  8. Key West, Florida
Take scenic U.S. Route 1 southwest of Miami to Key West — a vibrant Caribbean escape with activities such as snorkeling, boating, diving and fishing. If crowds aren’t for you, stay on Marathon or Islamorada for a more natural setting.

  9. Sanibel Island, Florida
Charming Sanibel Island boasts some of Florida’s most beautiful beaches as well as world-class bird-watching, breathtaking sunsets, golf, biking and fishing. The subtropical climate makes this paradise a winter haven for residents and visitors alike.

  10. Paradise Coast, Florida
The “Paradise Coast” includes Marco Island, the city of Naples and western areas of the Everglades. The opportunity to explore the Ten Thousand Islands National Wildlife Refuge alongside full-amenity resorts makes this a perfect family-friendly off-season getaway.

  11. Marfa, Texas
While not exactly warm, Marfa in winter is still a great escape with its dramatic scenery, rich arts and culture scene and layered history. The slower pace and relaxed feel of this tiny town will change your perspective and refresh your outlook in a matter of days.

  12. South Padre Island, Texas
A winter season visit to South Padre Island and Laguna Madre means enjoyment of the beauty and recreation, without the wild spring break crowds. The long stretches of pristine beaches and warm, friendly atmosphere will relax and rejuvenate you.

  13. Savannah, Georgia
Mild temperatures and low tourist numbers make a winter visit to Savannah a pleasant escape. With plenty of winter activities and events as well as bargain pricing on accommodations, exploring this historic city in the slow season is a treat.

  14. Charleston, South Carolina
Aside from its rich historical sites, Charleston offers winter visitors live music, comedy, community events and, in February, the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition. Visiting in the off-season also means smaller crowds and great prices on accommodations.

  15. St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands
With two-thirds of the island covered by Virgin Islands National Park, St. John is home to myriad species of birds, animals and plants. This Caribbean paradise offers white-sand beaches, sparkling turquoise water, endless recreation and beautiful sunsets.
